Easy & Chic Nail Art

Nail art- it's not just for tweens. If you haven't jumped on the nail art train, we get it. But trust us when we say there is chic and simple nail art out there! If you're a nail art newbie, try this super easy and quick tutorial. The look is striking but still subtle- think of it as a grown-up version of the glitter nails you loved as a kid. Read below for the crazy simple instructions:

1. Place a piece of clear tape across each nail horizontally, avoiding bubbles or folds in the tape to ensure a clean line.

2. Paint the nail (duh). We picked this sparkly gold color, but any will do!

3. Peel the tape off while it's still wet! Go slowly to avoid smudging.

4. Enjoy! You did it! You made all your tween dreams come true.

Didn't we tell you it was simple?

happy habitat by karrie kaneda

If you've been to our store in Dallas, you may have noticed some bright blankets adding color to the space. These blankets are from happy habitat by karrie kaneda, and they aren't just the adorable pop of color your home is begging for- they are made from recycled cotton, so they are environmentally friendly, too!

Karrie is the ultimate #girlboss- creative, intelligent, and downright business savvy- so we had to soak up some of her wisdom. Read the interview below to hear her story and get some awesome career advice:

Tell us a little about yourself.

hey- i'm karrie. i design throw blankets made from recycled cotton. i like octopus, bubbly, pattern, my kids. not in that order. i don't like capital letters or negativity.

Describe your path to creating happy habitat. What obstacles did you come up against?

i landed as a blanket designer when i got laid off from my corporate job and didn't want to take another office job. i figured it was a sign to do something great and not settle. i wasn't sure what my passion was, but knew it would involve something creative and good for the earth. when i couldn't find a moroccan patterned throw, i thought i should make one. but knowing i don't have the patience or skills to craft something of good quality, i found someone else that's good at that.

obstacles included: flakey people, unethical people, scratchy blankets, trapezoid shaped throws, learning how to design stuff, learning html, learning seo (still don't know that), knowing when to say no and i'm still coming up against things every day.

What keeps you inspired in work and in life?

simple things- good food, good smells, sunny days, seeing a color combination i've never seen before. music. fashion.

What is the best career advice you've ever received? What about the career advice you would now give?

best advice- do one thing and do it well.

my advice- follow your own path. and stop talking about it and do it. do the hard stuff. do the stuff that seems stupid. and do it yourself. do the tedious stuff- it's those things that make the difference.

What is your best home decorating tip?

it should always be about art.

This or that:
Early bird or night owl? work hard in the morning- play hard at night.
Coffee or tea? tea is for pussies.
Work from home or in the office? the word 'office' makes me sad. i work from home or the coffee shop.
Dog lover or cat lady? both, but i'm currently stalking a dog down the street. trying to convince his owners to let him come over and play with me.
Color or black and white? for me personally, black and white just because i work with color all day. but i'll gladly spread color for everyone else.

Thanks for chatting with us, Karrie!

Be sure to check out happy habitat- your home will thank you!

Kiss-Proof Lip Color

Valentine's Day totally puts us in a girly, lipstick-wearing kind of mood. But wearing lipstick can be quite a hassle- you know we all fear the smear! Valentine's Day is way less fun when you can't give your guy a smooch, so we road-tested some lip color for you that will stay on all night. Check out our favorite tried-and-true kiss-proof lip colors below!

Go Bold

For a classic Valentine's Day look, you need a super glam red lip. Sephora to the rescue! This Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red does nut budge. I ate a burger while wearing this, you guys. A burger! And afterwards it looked like I had just put it on. The eternal red lip struggle has been resolved.

Date Night In

While having a glam night out on the town can be fun, sometimes it's just nice to stay in and snuggle, you know? The Flower Lip Suede Velvet Lip Chubby in Mauve Over is perfect for a night in. The color is rosy and natural, and it leaves your lips feeling plush and soft.

Keep It Casual

Having a casual date night? The L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Lipcolor in Everlasting Caramel is your jam. I wear this color all the time because it's just a bit deeper than a natural look and stays on all day.

A Little Edgy

Feeling risky? Try the Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain and Balm in Midnight for an edgier look. Or wear your hair in retro waves for a 1930's screen siren vibe. This stain really cements itself to your lips, so be ready to commit!

Now smooch away, beauty mavens! And shop everything above here:

Tips to the Perfect Table

Some of us love to be the hostess. Others would rather just bring a hostess gift, thank you very much. But whatever your preference, you're bound to have to host a dinner sooner or later. That's where our friend Cassie comes in. Cassie creates gorgeous tablescapes that she shares on her blog, Hi Sugarplum!, and she's here to give us some tips on how to create a beautiful and personal table for any event.

Hi, Cassie! What are your top three decoration tips when it comes to creating a tablescape?

1. Add fresh flowers- even grocery store arrangements or clippings from the yard are lovely when arranged in a large pitcher or a series of small cups.
2. Create ambient lighting by installing a dimmer in your dining room and adding candles to your table.
3. Placecards always make guests feel special and they add interest to the table. They can be as simple as names written on a gift tag or a piece of fruit.

What is your advice for someone who is on a budget and can't afford new plates or cloth napkins?

Stick with white dishware so you can mix up the table for any season or holiday with just the addition of napkins (paper napkins are cute and inexpensive) and colorful taper candles. If you don't own white dishes, don't be afraid to mix-and-match your dishes for an eclectic vibe- just keep the centerpiece a single hue, like just greenery, to make it more cohesive.

What is your favorite holiday for decorating?

I love setting tables for all the holidays. Themes make it easy to build around. But if I had to choose, it'd be Christmas.

What is your favorite decorating trend of the moment?

I don't pay too close attention to trends, but stick with what I like, which is always lots of color, texture, and layers. Anything can work in the right arrangement.

Thanks, Cassie, for teaching us the to be a hostess with the mostest
